Iran Society Travel Grant for 2010

In 2010 the Iran Society is again able to offer a travel grant to a graduate or undergraduate student in the field of Persian studies at a British university who wishes to carry out a literary, historical or cultural project in Iran during the summer vacation and is willing, if invited, to lecture to the Society when he or she returns to the UK. Thanks to the generosity of our corporate members and of bmi, the grant will be of a return air ticket to Tehran and the sum of £350 for living expenses in Iran.

The Iran Society is a UK charity established to promote learning and advance education in Persian culture in this country. We are a cultural organisation in a broad sense rather than a strictly academic one, and the winning candidate will not necessarily be the one who submits the most academically demanding project. We are seeking a project which will further the Society's object, which has no connection with contemporary Iranian politics and which is of broad general interest to those who love the country and its heritage. The subject should also be capable of attracting an audience to a later lecture to the Society.

Candidates should submit the following details on not more than two sides of A4 paper to the Secretary of the Society, 2 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PJ on or before 1 June 2010:

  1. Personal details, including name, address and telephone number, age, educational qualifications and an outline of the university course being undertaken.
  2. A full description of the project, including approximate dates of travel and planned length of stay in Iran.

The name of the successful candidate will be communicated before the end of June 2010. The award will depend on the candidate successfully obtaining an Iranian visa.
